Today, it seems as though there are so many mass-produced items and generic solutions to solve everyone’s needs. At Harmony Day Spa, we recognize that every customer that walks through our door to receive a massage is unique. As such, we pride ourselves on customizing a massage to fit any need.

Our massage therapists are American Massage Therapy Association Professional Members. Before starting our service, we ask our customers why they need a massage and where their trouble areas are. From there, we determine the best modality and areas to treat. The purpose of doing this is to focus our energy on the trouble spots to leave you feeling healed and relaxed. There is no one size fits all approach or recipe that the typical chain massage locations provide.  Our goal is to heal you, not sell you a membership or get you out the door in under 50 minutes.

We provide the following base massage services, after hearing your needs our therapists will customize to suit your unique body.

Swedish Massage. Have you been feeling stressed and tired? The Swedish massage is perfect for you. The combination of kneading and tapping strokes with muscle movement allows your body to relax and be energized. This treatment is also beneficial for treating muscle injuries. We offer the Swedish massage in our Fusion Massage, Swedish Massage, Back in Harmony, and Hot Stone Massage.

Deep Tissue Massage. Do you have trouble spots on your back and neck that just won’t go away? A Deep Tissue Massage can help rid your body of leftover pain from an old injury. The difference between Deep Tissue and Swedish is the strokes are slower and forceful. While it might sound painful, the massage shouldn’t be! If you are experiencing any pain with your massage, please let us know. Our therapists aren’t mind readers and their feelings will not be hurt if you tell them, we promise! We offer a Deep Tissue Massage in the following services Fusion Massage, Back in Harmony, and Deep Tissue Massage.

How To Live A Balanced Life

Running around all day to fulfill the obligations of jobs, parenthood, and personal wellness is the reality for many Harmony Day Spa patrons. As we enter into a new season of rest and rejuvenation, I want to provide tips on how to live a balanced life. I think we could all use a schedule refresh every once and awhile. Incorporate the tips below in your schedule to achieve a balanced life.

  • Take time for yourself. When our schedules are busy and obligations keep popping up, one of the first things taken off our agenda is time for ourselves. How does that leave you feeling? Most likely, stressed and unhappy. It is time we stop putting ourselves at the bottom of the list and carve out time for our needs. Take 30 minutes at the end of each day to read a book. Treat yourself to an after-work facial or massage. Explore a new hobby. The options are endless as long as you do what will make you the happiest.

  • Stay positive. Our mindsets truly affect our happiness levels. If being busy all the time has you feeling down, step back and try to change your mindset to find the positive. Put your situation into perspective and relinquish events that you can’t control. Once you realize that life has its ups and downs, you will be better prepared to live in the moment and enjoy the ride.

  • Reevaluate your priorities. It is Monday morning and you are looking over your schedule for the week. You think the schedule looks a bit on the busier side, but overall is manageable. All of a sudden, Tuesday arrives and you have invites to three different events for that week. What do you do? Accept them all without thinking where to fit them in? One of the best things you can do to start living a balanced life is to reevaluate your priorities. Think about the activities that are near and dear to your heart and fit those in. Maybe it means getting rid of another event, but life is a balancing act.

Making small steps towards achieving a balanced life is the best way to get started. We hope that you take time for yourself, stay positive, and reevaluate your priorities this week.

Autumn has officially arrived! That means cool, crisp mornings and longer nights. Humidity-free weather isn’t the only thing that autumn brings...colds are also beginning to make their nasty appearance. A new season is a perfect time to revamp your wellness routine and focus on creating a balanced life. Harmony Day Spa has you covered with three wellness tips you need to know this autumn to stay healthy and happy.

  1. Get your zzzs in. As long summer days fade into long autumn nights, maintaining a healthy sleep schedule is crucial. Over time, our bodies immune systems begin to weaken due to lack of sleep. Listen to your body when determining how much sleep you need. Some people can thrive on 6-7 hours of sleep, while others need upwards of 8 hours to feel well rested.

  2. Feed your body with seasonal foods. ‘Tis the season for apples, pumpkins, kale, spinach, and asparagus. Fill your plate and body with seasonal, healthy fruits and veggies. Use the weekend to prepare some meals that are easy to heat up when you are busy during the week.

  3. Pamper yourself. In the midst of your busy schedule, it is important to take a breathe and relax. Don’t forget to take time to focus on yourself and do things that nourish your mind and body. Practice yoga, meditate, go for a walk to enjoy the foliage, and take care of your skin with a facial or massage.

You Have Tech Neck-Now What?

Have your upper back and neck been hurting a bit more than usual? You are not alone! When we opened Harmony Day Spa over 14 years ago, our clientele came in to receive massage to relieve lower back pain. Now, more than ever before, we are increasingly seeing people due to upper back and neck pain. Thus, we’ve started using the term tech neck to describe their pain.

The majority of our day is spent looking down at our phones, tablets, and laptops. Over time, the awkward angle and posture we use to sneak a glance at our phones during meetings or check email build up the tension in the neck and upper back. Did you know that 79% of people between the ages of 18 and 44 have their phones with them for all but two of their waking hours?

There are a few things you can do to minimize the impact of tech neck, including:

  • Take frequent breaks. Yes, people look down to read, however, most don’t read for 10-hours a day straight. Set a timer for every 25 minutes to look away from your screen and adjust your posture. Your eyes, neck, and back will thank you!

  • Properly position your screens. One of the leading causes of tech neck is improperly positioned screens. Often times we are hunched over looking at our phones or tablets. An easy fix for this is to bring screens up to your eye level.
